What it is...
The Optimist Brain Bowl is an academic competition open to middle school students in Colorado and Wyoming. Students form teams and demonstrate their knowledge of a variety of subjects in a format loosely modeled after the GE College Bowl televison program that ran from 1959-1970.
All Colorado/Wyoming public, private and home-schooled 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to form teams and participate.
All team registrations must be be postmarked by December 1, 2009. Registration per school is limited to 3 teams per grade level, nine teams total. Should the tournaments fill before December 1, teams will be accepted in the order in which paid registrations are received.
What it isn't...
The Optimist Brain Bowl is NOT a trivia contest. Although the competition is formatted much like a TV game show, the questions put every team member's expertise to work. Subjects cover knowledge learned in the classroom and in the community.
The Optimist Brain Bowl is NOT boring. Brain Bowl officials take the teams seriously and are trained to provide a fair academic event that is a source of pride for every team competing. In other words, the competition is serious fun!
