Starting an Optimist Brain Bowl program in your school or organization is easy. There are no rigid rules for preparing teams for tournaments so teams can practice in the setting that makes the most sense for your students. Your teams can be competitive with one hour of practice per week. Team fees are still only $35 per team.

Brain Bowl is fast paced like a game show but it is competitive like sports. After playing by the Brain Bowl rules for a few rounds, students begin to pick up on the strategies for building as many points as possible over a series of team to team rounds. Soon they realize that it's not what they know but how they use their knowledge to play the game.

Starting a Brain Bowl Program

If you are brand new to the program and don't know where to start, here are some ideas that have been suggested by participating schools.

  1. Start a Brain Bowl club that meets during activity period or after school.

  2. Have a team practice corner during lunch break.

  3. A Brain Bowl Breakfast Club can help get brains warmed up for the day.

  4. Brain Bowl is a great activity for Homeroom.

  5. Brain Bowl is a fun way to review for tests!

It is not mandatory that every student who practices Brain Bowl be part of the Brain Bowl competitive team which makes it an easy activity to slip into any classroom when there are a few extra minutes.
