Oral Round Scoring

Team's "buzz-in" to answer questions. If the first team to buzz-in answers correctly, it receives one point. If the first team to buzz-in answers incorrectly and the second team answers correctly, it receives two points. If no teams buzz-in, no points are awarded for the question. The points are totaled at the end of the round and verified correct by the Team Captains' signatures.

competitions in the morning rounds. Teams play to gain points. Teams with scheduled Byes are awarded the average score of the other three oral rounds for that Bye round. Tie scores are allowed in the preliminary (morning) oral rounds. Scores from the preliminary rounds are totaled to determine the top eight teams at each grade level. These teams advance to the elimination rounds in the afternoon. Point scores from the written and preliminary oral rounds will be posted as soon they are compiled and verified by the score room, usually at the end of the lunch hour. If there is a tie determining which eight teams are to proceed to the elimination rounds, the teams with the highest written score determine the tie breaker.

Written Round Scoring

The total correct answers on the written test determine the Written Round scores for each team. For this reason it is important for the team to review, record and verify as many answers together within the time limit before handing in the test. The Team Captain must attest that scores turned in are the team's by signature.

Elimination and Finals Rounds

Teams are seeded in the elimination rounds according to their rank after the scores from the morning rounds are totaled. The elimination rounds are team-to-team competitions. There can be no ties in the elimination rounds. Therefore, if the score is tied after 30 questions during an elimination round competition, additional questions are asked until the tie is broken. Points accumulated during the five morning rounds do not carry over to the elimination rounds, except for tie-breaking purposes. This scenario is possible if the eliminated teams in the 2nd Elimination round are tied for total scores during the eliminations. The morning round scores would be used to determine 3rd and 4th place awards.
